I figure my current regimen costs about $200,000/year Canadian, or slightly less in USD. My costs are covered by Medicare (Herceptin and Vinorelbine) and by my private drug plan (Neupogen). I am very, very lucky. It all makes me so furious. Drug companies are evil.
I have metastatic breast cancer, and it costs more than $300,000 a year to keep me alive. And that's not including therapy (another $35,000/year) and massage therapy (insurance pays for 12 visits, I pay the rest).
"I have come to believe over and over again that what is most important to me must be spoken, made verbal and shared, even at the risk of having it bruised or misunderstood. That the speaking profits me, beyond any other effect... for it is not difference which immobilizes us, but silence."
Audre Lorde, from "The Transformation of Silence into Language and Action"
